How does it affect me?

Operating on a narrowband frequency requires different technology than a wideband frequency does. While most radio technology manufactured in the last 10 years can operate in both modes, some organizations throughout the country still have older radio infrastructure that will need to be replaced before the 2013 transition. The change from wideband to narrowband may also change the coverage characterictics of the current wideband system requiring additional changes to the system design and equipment.
